The file ╥kcs# editor for ResEdit 2.1╙ contains a ResEdit¬ 2.1 (or later) RSSC resource that adds an editor for keyboard icons to ResEdit. Keyboard icons are resources of types 'kcs#', 'kcs4', and 'kcs8' that specify small icons corresponding to 'KCHR' resources. In system software version 7, keyboard icons replace 'SICN' resources formerly associated with 'KCHR' resources. These keyboard icons are used in the Keyboard control panel and in the Keyboard menu when it is displayed on some localized versions of the system software. You won't normally need to create or edit keyboard icon resources unless you're involved with system software localization.
The keyboard icon editor is very similar in operation to the Finder Icon editor, which is described in the ResEdit Reference.

The kcs# editor is only compatible with ResEdit versions 2.1 or later. The protocols for ResEdit editors earlier than 2.1 are different and will NOT work with this editor.
The file ╥kcs# editor for ResEdit 2.1╙ contains the kcs# editor and all its associated resources. Using ResEdit, copy ALL the resources in ╥kcs# editor for ResEdit 2.1╙ into ResEdit or into your ╥ResEdit Preferences╙ file. The Preferences file is in your System Folder. You can copy into the running version of ResEdit so long as you don't replace resources in use; use common sense and make sure you have a backup copy of ResEdit. When pasting into a program with many large resources (like ResEdit), window updates may be relatively slow. Have patience!
